NEWS FLASH...  as of October 10, 2017

On Sept 6, 2017, Hurricane Irma delivered a horrific punch to St Martin/St Maarten.  The north-eastern side of the island, where the strongest force winds are typically experienced in a hurricane, was severely damaged and/or destroyed.  Unfortunately, Orient Bay was one of the hardest hit areas of the island with battering winds of up to 185 mph.  The accompanying surge of sea water, sand and debris went almost as far back as the base of the mountain effectively covering the entire village area.  All the restaurants and shops along the beach were completely obliterated, including Coco’s Beach Club.  The residential buildings and hotels along the beach were severely damaged.  Please click here for vidoes of damage in Orient Bay.

Hotel Palm Court sustained a lot of wind damaged and lost the roof on 1 of the 4 buildings.  The storm surge did damage the lower level rooms, but rest assured, the Palm Court will be restored and will continue to be the favorite tropical hideaway of its many loyal, and much appreciated guests!!  Anne, the lovely General Manager of Palm Court, says they are working very hard on clean up and are excited about the renovations that will come.  She and the staff are hoping to be welcoming guests by May, 2018 (subject to change).

The current estimated date for receiving guests at several of the other hotels in Orient Bay, assuming all goes smoothly with getting permits, building materials, and laborers, etc., is June 1, 2018, however, this date is also subject to change in either direction depending on the speed of recovery.  Please note that resorts will only start accepting guests when there are restaurants and beach chairs with service for its guests.  2018 may not see full recovery, but Orient Bay will still be a magical, relaxing place to vacation, and in fact, a visit before the crowds are back may prove to be an exceedingly enjoyable experience!

The good news is the resilient, energetic business owners and residents of SXM who rely on tourism as their sole source of income, are united in the goal of getting things back to “better than” normal ASAP!  The island has been in hyper cleaning mode (with help from Military) and every day gets better. As of this update there are about 120 restaurants now open (mostly on the Dutch side of the island), plus many shops, grocery stores, gas stations, banks, and medical facilities! Princess Julianna is accepting limited commercial flights and the 1st cruise ship, the Viking Sea, sailed into the Port of St. Maarten in Philipsburg Dec 4!!!

We are firmly convinced that St Martin will be better than ever before!  It will be a safer, cleaner, more modern destination, but maintain its Caribbean charm and reputation as “the Friendly Island”!  Please contact us around December for a more accurate assessment for vacation possibilities in Orient Bay or other areas of the island.

“Charming”... “Peaceful”...  “Serene”... “Adorable”... “Quaint”

Just a few words guests have used to describe this “little jewel” of a hotel in Orient Beach.

IENT BEACH is undoubtedly one of the most magnificent beaches in the Caribbean... 1.3 miles (2.1 kilometers) of soft white coral sand protected by a coral reef.  The uninhabited Islands of Green Cay, Pinel & Tintamare are in clear view. The constant cooling trade winds and light wave action provide perfect swimming, snorkeling, and sailing conditions.

Watersports concessions and restaurants/bars line the beach so there is always plenty of activities and fun places to eat, and drink!  And let's not forget "people watching"... you just never know what you'll see ;-)

Club Orient is a long established nudist resort at the very southern end of Orient beach.  Occasionally folks will "stroll the beach au natual" but don't be intimidated, it's more of a giggle (our should we say jiggle?) than anything else.  Guests in the village area are always properly clothed, but keep in mind it is a French island so topless sunbathing is accepted on the beaches.  One thing is for sure, with or without a suit you'll have tons of fun on Orient Beach!!

On the main road leading to Orient beach is the quaint"Village d'Orient" which includes Petit Casino for all your liquor & grocery needs, a hair and beauty salon, snack bars and Ice Cream/Gelato parlor,  a news stand, tobacco shop, and a few clothing and souvenir boutiques, not to mention the 25+ great restaurants!

The well known and much enjoyed "5 Stars of Orient Beach" are full service beachfront restaurants offering everything from snacks & healthy salads & burgers to full course entrees, all of which can be served to you while lounging on your comfortable chaise ...  Oh, and let's not forget those tropical cocktails to wash everything down!

In addition to the 5 Stars, the Orient Bay Village offers a wide range of dining experiences from around the globe - Fine French cuisine at Côté Plage, delicious pizzas at Le Piment, Tex Mex at the Rocking Chair & flavors of the Orient at the Thai Chi Restaurant. The Chapel restaurant & Bar is open late into the night, the perfect spot for the after diner drink or dance.....

OTHER ORIENT BEACH HOTELS ...
